Phi Delta Psi is a college fraternity
consisting of functioning undergraduates, and soon
to be flourishing alumni chapters
on major campuses in major cities throughout the country.
The fraternity was founded at Western Michigan University
as a non-profit organization under the laws of the
state of Michigan on March 21, 1977. The fraternity
also established a little sister organization called
the "Sapphires." "Dipped in chocolate,
captivated refinement, toasted with beauty. The Sapphires
are undoubtedly the most beautiful blacks sisters
of Phi Delta Psi. The Sapphires whose dedication,
support, commitment, and hard work have always been
an inspiration to us. Imagine men striving for change,
men looking to make and organization built on diversity,
built on being different, built on being unique, then
you have imagined the Founding Fathers. Striving to
be diverse, different and unique is what has this
organization and where we want to be: in touch with
the black community. We shall like the torch live
eternally.
The founders saw fit, with due respect
to our Greek brothers, the need for a change. This
change was a new organization that could carry on
a fraternity tradition. Our organization also set
forth an atmosphere geared toward the stimulation
of the young black college man - making him aware
of his individual potential of unlimited self-improvement.
Phi Delta Psi is not just a social
fraternal family. Up to this point in time, our
concept is seen as a logical progression from individual
self improvement to the larger goal of social betterment
for the masses. Education will always be the key,
the proven way to break the cycle of poverty, discrimination
and deprivation of our rights. Each step in the
academic progression is further proof of the educability
and hence leadership potential of those at the bottom
rung of the so-called, "socio-economic ladder."
We are involved in community services and hope to
one day be able to offer aid to the under-priviledged
throghout the world. Our members have no choice
but to be "leaders of men." We are a fraternity
with a deinable purpose and definite goal in mind.
For we believe, "What we put into the lives
of others, comes back into our own."
